Door intercom: how the whole system works

Build it from the door inwards with the equipment we install: the door station, an optional phone system, every place it rings, and what it opens.

A door intercom from UltraTech Kuwait is one chain: an Akuvox door station at the gate (one button, or one per floor or apartment), a cable to the house, optionally a phone system (PBX) in the middle, then the screens, phones and mobile app that ring, and an electric lock or gate motor that opens from any of them.

Change any box below to another product we stock: the diagram shows which button rings which device. We confirm the cable, the lock and the gate at the site visit.

How does one door station ring different floors?

With one button, a press rings every screen and phone together, and whoever answers first talks to the visitor. With several buttons, each button rings its own place: a floor, an apartment, the majlis or one person's phone. The mobile app can ring on every button, so the family always gets the call.

When do I need a phone system (PBX) in the middle?

Only for an advanced setup. Without one, the door calls the Akuvox screens and the app directly, which suits most homes. Add a PBX when the door should also ring ordinary desk or cordless phones, when calls should transfer between rooms, or when the house phone line should share the same handsets.

Do I need a screen, or is the mobile app enough?

The app alone works: the door rings each family member's mobile wherever they are, and they open from the app. A screen adds an answer point that works without a mobile and without the internet, for parents, children or house staff.

Most villas put one screen on each floor and the app on the family's phones.

Can I keep my old intercom wires?

Usually yes. The 2-wire door stations (E12S-2, R20A-2) and the C313W-2 screen run over the existing pair of wires, which also carries their power. Several screens on the same wires connect through a small 2-wire switch in the cabinet.

We test the old wires at the visit: a broken or damaged run is replaced.

Which is better: a screen, a wall phone with a handset, or a desk video phone?

A wall screen answers hands-free in a hallway or kitchen. The C310A wall phone adds a handset you lift, so the visitor is not heard across the room. The VP-R49G is an Android desk phone with a screen: it answers the door and also works as an ordinary phone, so it suits an office or majlis.

Can I open the door or the gate from my phone?

Yes. The door station switches the lock or the gate motor, and Unlock is on every screen, every phone and in the app, so you can open for a delivery while you are out.

The lock itself is a separate part chosen for your door. We check the door frame and the gate motor at the visit.

What happens next?

Book a site visit: the engineer checks the door, the cables already in the walls, the lock and the gate, and where each screen goes. You then get the design and the quotation.
