About the TP-Link MC100CM
A media converter turns a copper Ethernet link into fibre and back, so two sites can be joined over a distance copper cannot reach, or across ground where copper would pick up interference or lightning surges. The MC100CM does this at 10/100 Mbps over multi-mode fibre with an SC connector, up to 2 km at 1310 nm.
That is enough for camera points, gate access controllers, IP phones and building-management links that need fast Ethernet rather than gigabit. Converters are used in pairs, one at each end of the fibre, or one converter facing a switch with a matching 100Base-FX port.
The RJ45 side auto-negotiates speed and duplex and detects crossover cables, and flow control protects against packet loss. LEDs show power and link activity on both sides. The unit draws just 1.2 W from a 9 V adapter, measures 94.5 x 73 x 27 mm and is rated for 0 to 40 °C. For single-mode fibre or longer runs, see the MC110CS; for gigabit, the MC210CS.
