About the TP-Link MC110CS

The MC110CS covers the long distances. It converts 10/100 Mbps copper Ethernet to single-mode fibre at 1310 nm and reaches up to 20 km, ten times the multi-mode MC100CM. That suits links between farms, chalets and remote gates on large plots, between buildings across a compound, or out to a pump house, security post or roadside camera.

Single-mode fibre is also immune to the electrical interference and earth-potential problems that can damage long copper runs between buildings, a common cause of failed switch ports. A pair of converters, one at each end, makes the link transparent to the devices on either side.

The copper port auto-negotiates speed and duplex and supports auto MDI/MDIX; flow control and backpressure prevent packet loss. It uses 2.4 W at most, measures 94.5 x 73 x 27 mm and is rated for 0 to 50 °C. For gigabit speed over the same distance, the MC210CS is the upgrade.
