About the Linksys LGS310MPC

The LGS310MPC is a small switch with big-switch features. All eight copper ports supply PoE+, with 110 W to share, which is close to 14 W per port and enough for eight IP cameras or a mix of access points and phones. Two 1G SFP slots carry fibre uplinks to a main cabinet or another building, useful for a gatehouse, a guard room or a remote camera point.

Unlike unmanaged switches it gives full control: 256 VLANs to separate cameras, staff and guests; IPv4 and IPv6 static routing between them; 802.1X with RADIUS, ACLs, DHCP snooping and IP-MAC binding for security; an auto voice VLAN for IP phones; and LACP, spanning tree, IGMP snooping for camera multicast, port mirroring and SNMP for monitoring. It is managed through a browser, Telnet or SSH, and keeps a dual firmware image.

The unit is only 24 x 10.5 cm and 636 g, mounts on a desk or wall, and has no fan, so it is silent in an office. It runs from AC power and is rated for 0 to 40 °C, so keep it in a cool cabinet.
