Cat6 / Cat6A cabling
UltraTech Kuwait installs Cat6 and Cat6A network cabling in Kuwait and helps you choose between them: Cat6 suits most desks and phones, while Cat6A supports 10 Gb/s over the full 100 m and is the usual choice for Wi-Fi 6 and 7 access points and server links. Both are installed, tested and labelled the same way.

How much do Cat6 and Cat6A cabling cost in Kuwait?
Typical Kuwait prices in 2026, equipment and installation included. Your exact price is fixed in writing after the site visit (20 KWD, deducted from your invoice when you go ahead).
| Cat6 point, installed and tested | 12 – 20 KWD |
| Cat6A point, installed and tested | 18 – 28 KWD |
| Cat6 cable, 305 m box (supply only) | 40 – 60 KWD |
| Cat6A cable, 305 m box (supply only) | 70 – 130 KWD |
| Upgrade an existing point from Cat5e to Cat6 | 10 – 18 KWD |
What moves the price
- Cat6 or Cat6A
- Shielded (F/UTP) or unshielded
- Route length and ceiling access
- Number of points
Cat6 or Cat6A: which should you choose?
The difference in price per point is 5–10 KWD; the difference in cabling life is years.
| Use | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Desks, phones, printers | Cat6 | 1 Gbps is plenty; lowest cost |
| Wi-Fi 6E / Wi-Fi 7 access points | Cat6A | Multi-gig uplinks (2.5–10 Gbps) |
| Server room, between racks | Cat6A or fiber | 10 Gbps and heat tolerance |
| New building expected to last 15+ years | Cat6A | Avoid re-cabling later |
How to spot fake or weak Cat6
Cheap cable sold as Cat6 is common. These checks catch most of it before it goes into the ceiling.
On the box
- Category, AWG and standard printed on the jacket every metre
- Brand and batch number you can trace
- LSZH marked if it is for an office
In the hand
- Solid copper, not copper-clad aluminium (CCA): scrape a conductor
- 23 AWG for Cat6/Cat6A; thinner wire is a warning
- A 305 m box that feels light usually is not pure copper
After installation
- Every point tested end to end
- PoE devices staying stable under load
- Certification report if the job needs one
Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A or Cat8?
The figures that matter, side by side.
| Category | Bandwidth | Speed over full length | Use today |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cat5e | 100 MHz | 1 Gbps to 100 m | Existing offices only; not for new work |
| Cat6 | 250 MHz | 1 Gbps to 100 m; 10 Gbps to ~55 m | Desks, phones, printers |
| Cat6A | 500 MHz | 10 Gbps to 100 m | New buildings, Wi-Fi 7 access points, server rooms |
| Cat8 | 2,000 MHz | 25–40 Gbps to 30 m | Inside data centres only; not for desks |
What people ask before they hire
What is the price difference between Cat6 and Cat6A in Kuwait?
Installed, Cat6 costs about 12–20 KWD per point and Cat6A about 18–28 KWD. Cat6A cable is thicker and heavier, so trays and installation cost a little more too.
Is Cat6A worth it?
For new buildings, Wi-Fi 7 access points and server rooms, yes: it carries 10 Gbps over the full 100 m. For ordinary desks, Cat6 is enough.
Can Cat6 do 10 Gbps?
Only on short runs, up to about 55 m and depending on conditions. Cat6A is rated for 10 Gbps over the full 100 m.
Shielded or unshielded?
Unshielded (U/UTP) suits most offices. Shielded cable helps near heavy electrical equipment, but needs correct earthing to work.
What is LSZH cable?
Low smoke, zero halogen: it gives off far less toxic smoke in a fire, which offices and public buildings should use.
How can I tell if Cat6 cable is genuine?
Check that the jacket is printed with category, AWG and standard every metre, that conductors are solid copper (not copper-clad aluminium), and that the installed points pass testing. We use traceable pure-copper cable only.

Cat6 and Cat6A mistakes we see in Kuwait
Problems that only appear after the ceilings are closed.
01Cheap copper-clad aluminium (CCA) cable sold as Cat6
Our fix: It fails tests and can't carry PoE safely. We use pure copper cable only.
02Cat6A cable with Cat6 outlets
Our fix: The link performs as Cat6. Every component is matched to the same category.
03Cables bent too tightly at the rack
Our fix: Performance drops, especially Cat6A. We keep bend radius and dress the rack.
04Shielded cable with no earthing
Our fix: It behaves worse than unshielded. We earth it properly or don't use it.

Cable terms, explained
- AWG
- Wire thickness; a lower number is thicker. Cat6 and Cat6A use 23 AWG.
- CCA
- Copper-clad aluminium: cheap cable that fails tests and overheats with PoE.
- U/UTP and F/UTP
- Unshielded and foil-shielded cable; shielded needs proper earthing to help.
- PoE
- Power over Ethernet: cameras, phones and access points powered through the data cable.
- LSZH
- Low smoke, zero halogen cable jacket, tested to IEC 60332, 60754 and 61034; gives off far less toxic smoke in a fire.
