Office phone system repair or replacement in Kuwait

UltraTech Kuwait's PBX and IP phone technicians decide whether a business should keep, repair or replace its phone system. They check its age, the parts still available, the lines and extensions in use and how the business takes calls, then give a written recommendation with the options after a site visit. Installation, call features and call-centre tools are covered on their own pages.

Keep, repair or replace the phone system

Most offices ask the same question when the phones start to fail: is it worth repairing what is there, or is it time to change the system? The answer depends on the system's age, whether its parts can still be found, how many staff and lines it now carries, and how the business takes calls. UltraTech's technicians check these on the visit and give a written recommendation, with the options and what each one fixes.

When this is trueUsually the answerWhy
The fault is isolated: one phone, one line or one portRepairThe system is sound and the part is cheap to replace
The same fault comes back after each repairReplaceA repair does not fix a design or capacity problem
Parts or firmware are no longer supplied by the makerReplace or migrateNothing can be repaired with new parts once support ends
Staff or branches have grown past the system's extensionsUpgrade or replaceThe licences and channels limit the calls, not the hardware
Calls must reach mobiles, remote staff or a second branchReplace with a hybrid or hosted systemThe old system cannot route calls outside the office
An analogue exchange works and the lines are keptKeep it, and add an IP gateway for new phonesNothing changes for the staff, and the gateway handles the new phones

These are the usual outcomes, not a rule. The visit decides, and no recommendation is made without it.

Before you call a technician: what to write down

Seven facts shorten the visit and make the first recommendation more accurate. Write them down before you call or send a message on WhatsApp.

  1. 1The make and model of the central unit and of the phones, from the label on the device.
  2. 2How many lines come in, and whether they are analogue, ISDN or SIP.
  3. 3How many extensions are in use, and how many people answer calls.
  4. 4The last change made to the system, and who holds the admin login.
  5. 5Whether the UPS and the network switch are connected, and when the battery was last replaced.
  6. 6What stopped, when it started, and whether a restart brings it back.
  7. 7Whether the internet link and the operator line both work: a call from a mobile to the office tests both.

How phone system faults change with age

The age of a system and its type point to the most likely failure, so the technician knows where to look first. The ages below are a working rule, confirmed on the visit against the make and the condition of the equipment.

SystemWhat usually failsWhat the technician does
IP system, under about 5 yearsProblems after a firmware update, or network settings changed by someone elseChecks firmware versions, the voice VLAN and quality-of-service settings, then the device list
IP system, about 5 to 10 yearsPower supplies, batteries, fans and the disk that holds voicemail and recordingsReplaces the power and battery parts, moves recordings and backups off the device, tests the UPS
Older or analogue exchangeLine cards, dust and heat damage, and parts no longer on salePlans a replacement, or adds an IP gateway so the lines and fax machines keep working

What a technician brings to a fault

  • Spare phones, cables and power supplies, so a faulty part is tested against a known good one.
  • A cable tester and a laptop for the switch ports, the network settings and the call logs.
  • Remote access to the system only when the office agrees, with the session recorded and the access closed afterwards.
  • Firmware files taken from the maker's own download pages, checked against the version before they are loaded.
  • Parts quoted for your approval before they are fitted, and a written note of what changed.
